Proactive and Community-Oriented?

Then we believe you will thrive with us. The Swedish Statistics Agency (SCB) is the country's largest and foremost source of knowledge in statistics. Our statistics are used everywhere, at the kitchen table, in news reporting, and by decision-makers in the parliament and government.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The section for Innovation, Business Production, and Research, which belongs to the Department of Economic Statistics and Analysis, is located in Solna. The section consists of two workgroups: one for short-term economic statistics and one for annual economic statistics. This recruitment is primarily for the workgroup for annual economic statistics, but other areas within the section may also become relevant.

We are responsible for producing and developing annual economic statistics in areas such as research and development (R&D), civil society, innovation activities, corporate IT usage, and the emergence of digitalization. A growing area is statistics on AI development in society and its impact on the economy. The work involves extensive collaboration with both national and international actors. We work closely with Eurostat and OECD on the development of statistics, as well as with our national expert users through the User Council for R&D statistics, which has an advisory function in our development issues.

The section is also responsible for short-term economic statistics, which includes the Production Value Index, Retail Index, and statistics on household consumption. Within this part of the operation, extensive development work is ongoing, especially regarding how new data sources can be used to enhance the quality and timeliness of statistics, for example, by integrating short transaction data and information from VAT declarations into production.

The work requires an analytical approach and the ability to independently drive the work forward for the statistical products you are responsible for. At the same time, collaboration is a central part of the role both within the section and with other parts of SCB. The work offers good opportunities for professional development in both the subject area and in statistical production.

Do you want to...

  • participate in the preparation, presentation, and publication of the statistics for which the section is responsible,
  • contribute to the development and coordination of the quality and content of the statistics,
  • participate in and/or drive improvement projects within the section,
  • have contacts with both internal and external statistical users,
  • participate in analytical work and environmental monitoring in the area

... then we believe this position could be really interesting for you!

QUALIFICATIONS

We want you to have:

  • A degree in social sciences with a focus on economics, statistics, and/or business administration, or another orientation that the agency assesses as relevant for the position.
  • 60 credits in statistics or courses/experience that the employer assesses as equivalent
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, SAS, R, or similar for statistical purposes
  • The ability to express yourself well in both spoken and written form, in both Swedish and English.

We consider it an advantage if you have:

  • Subject matter knowledge that is deemed relevant to the section's statistical areas (research and development, innovation, and digitalization)
  • Work experience in statistical production or working with large datasets (data management, analysis, and visualization of data)

For this to be a good match for both you and us, it is important that you have a good ability to collaborate. You work well with others and want to be part of a team where you contribute to your colleagues' well-being and success in their work. As a person, you are calm, attentive, and accommodating in your interactions. You are expected to take responsibility for your own work in a careful and quality-conscious manner and often come up with ideas and new approaches to work-related issues. You have innovative thinking that can be put into practice and leads to results.

You need to have good analytical skills and be able to process and interpret data in a quality-conscious manner. You enjoy working with complex issues. You will thrive with us if you like to work in a structured way, think logically, and use numbers as tools to create value. You keep yourself updated on developments both within the agency and in society at large, and you actively contribute to spreading good examples and new insights.
